DJIA Performers in Focus: Merck & Co, IBM and Verizon

Mixed sentiments were seen on Wall Street on Monday as the Dow Jones Industrial Average index declined 0.11 percent or 14.76 points to settle at 12,962.81 points. Standard & Poor’s 500 index fell 0.39 percent or 5.30 points to 1,364.33 points while NASDAQ Composite closed at 2,950.48 for the day. Following shares performed at Dow Jones despite negative closing.

Merck & Co., Inc (NYSE:MRK) surged 1.37 percent to close at $38.45 in yesterday’s session. The traded volume stood at 18.66 million shares as compared to its average traded volume figure of 14.96 million shares per day. The share price is currently trading at a price to earnings of 18.94 times while its dividend yield stands at 4.37 percent.

International Business Machines Corp (NYSE:IBM) gained 0.93 percent to close at $200.66 in yesterday’s session. The traded volume stood at 6.93 million shares as compared to its average traded volume figure of 4.77 million shares per day. The share price is currently trading at a price to earnings of 15.34 times while its dividend yield stands at 1.50 percent.

Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) advanced 0.85 percent to close at $39 in yesterday’s session. The traded volume stood at 13.77 million shares as compared to its average traded volume of 13.63 million shares per day. Verizon seems highly overvalued as per its price to earnings of 45.88 times while its dividend yield stands at 5.13 percent.
